Sustainable efforts must be made by political, social and economic forces to create a resilient, trusted cybersecurity space.
Technology continues to play a profound role in shaping the global risk landscape for individuals, businesses, and governments. Cyber threats are becoming more sophisticated and deceptive with more frequent data breaches and increased threats to global supply chains.
“That is the paradox of progress when we become more efficient and at the same time we become vulnerable too,” Tan Sri Azumi- Chairman, Cybersecurity Malaysia told the 12th Annual National Conference on Cyber Security, organized by the Ministry of Digital Infrastructure and Information Technology and Sri Lanka CERT in Colombo this week.
He said further that risk experts have consistently ranked large scale cyber attacks and data fraud among the top five mostly likely risks around the world over the next decade.
It was also suggested that cyber resilience strategies should be adopted and investments should be made to redress growing anxieties about cyber threats in the world. “It is clear that cyber conflicts are not only a threat but a reality. Nations are now more exposed to vulnerabilities and cyber security threats. Cyber security threats will become one of the main reasons for conflicts between nations or technology transformations could escalate into cyber warfare with more online attacks impacting economic success, competition, geopolitics and international relations,” he noted.
