SLT champions Sri Lankan digitization with Zero One Awards

The Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) held the third iteration of the digitization of their SLT Zero One awards at the Shangri La hotel on Wednesday. The awards were given in recognition of digital space innovation. Three-lifetime achievement awards were distributed at the ceremony with one being posthumously awarded.

SLT Chairman Rohan Fernando said digitization is the future. “Thankfully it is also the decision of our President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. There is no doubt that digital is the future in almost all applications. We will evolve at a pace that we find difficult to keep up with. This gives rise to endless possibilities that are only limited by our own imagination.”

Head Judge Lakshaman Bandaranayake said, “The solutions that we would develop based on unique insights and the digital pain points. We merge these two and create a value proposition. To create an experience that will deliver in the value proposition.”

Bandaranaike added, “I see diversity, it is not that one type of application that is replicated but that there are multiple types of applications or solutions. I observe an increasing sophistication of the submission. Those few entities which are trying to push the envelope outside the comfort zone is very encouraging.” Founder Millennium IT Tony Weerasinghe was awarded a lifetime achievement award for his work in bringing international digital service contracts to Sri Lanka and his work in financial technology. Researcher Indra Dayawansa was awarded a lifetime achievement award for her work in furthering the IT space at the University of Moratuwa. Dr. Amith Munindradasa was awarded for his work in IT, engineering, and defense consultancy. Dr. Munindradasa passed away while working on national defence procurement on an official visit to Israel.

These awards were presented in six categories: Best Digital Enabled Product / Service, Best Digital Integrated Campaign, Best Community Empowerment Program, Best Digital Media Agency, Best Website or Microsite and Best Use of Mobile.

The best overall winners are - Best Digital-Enabled Product/Service category, EagleEye, BooleanLab Private Limited, Best Digital-Integrated Campaign category, Spa Ceylon Luxury Ayurveda, Best Community Empowerment Programme category, CoderDojo Sri Lanka, STEMUP Educational Foundation, Best Digital Media Agency category, eMarketingEye, Best Website or Microsite category, www.hnbfinance.lk, HNB Finance and Best Use of Mobile category, SriLankan Airlines.
