Air Astana launches direct flights to Mattala

Air Astana, the flag carrier of Kazakhstan launched direct weekly flights to Mattala airport, last Saturday from Almaty. The inaugural flight carried with 169 passengers.

Lanka Sportreizen (LSR) is the Sri Lankan GSA for the airline.

The service will be operated using the new Airbus A321LR, which is configured with 16 Business class and 150 Economy class seats. The lie-flat business class seats are equipped with individual 16-inch screens, with four of 16 seats offering additional personal space. Economy class features Recaro seats, which provide increased comfort for long flights and are equipped with individual 10-inch screens.

The airline commenced its operations in May 2002 as a joint venture between Kazakhstan’s national wealth fund, Samruk Kazyna, and BAE Systems (UK), with respective shares of 51% and 49%.

Air Astana is a full-service international carrier. Air Astana operates the youngest fleet in the world with 32 brand new aircraft including Boeing 767, Airbus A320/A320neo, Airbus A321/A321neo/ A321LR and Embraer E190-E2.

Air Astana became the first carrier from Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Eastern Europe to be awarded a prestigious 4-Star rating by SkyTrax at its World Airline Awards 2012 and was also named ‘The Best Airline in Central Asia and India’ that year.
