The 15th installation ceremony of the FTZ Toastmasters Club Katunayaka for 2020 was held with much pomp and glamour recently at Hotel Stargazer Seeduwa with DTM Noorul Munawwara participating as the chief guest and DTM Dirgha Subbha as the guest of honour. Manager Leaf, Training & ISO United Tobacco Processing Janaka Wijewardana took over the responsibility as President of the FTZ Toastmasters Club Katunayaka at the event.
TM Eranga Solangaararachci, Event Chair making the opening remarks said Confidence, Friendship and Encouragement have kept Toastmasters of FTZ together over the past 15 years. Chief Guest is District Director District 82 Sri Lanka, Toastmasters International USA.
Chief guest DTM Noorul Munawwara, addressing the audience said it was great to see a Toastmaster club with an existence of 15 years and the main contributing factor to this success has been the strength of its membership.
“If you master the Toastmasters you can win the world at any time and at any difficult situation. The experience you go through the Toastmasters gives the opportunity to face all challengers,” she said.
President Janaka Wijewardana making his inaugural speech said their goals were to develop members and not to count milestones they achieved and he always believed in results. “We will organize a variety of the meetings in a fun-filled environment to bring up the energy. Together we shall achieve TMI goals while achieving member goals. During my tenure this club will continue to engage with activities of the Area, Division & District. We will make sure that all the clubs around us will not feel that they are alone. We know there are individuals, companies and groups who need the support of FTZTMs to improve communication and leadership skills of their management staff.”
“We will actively get involved with them to create partnerships to add value to their organizations. We will make plans and will extend our hands of support to others who are willing to join hands with FTZTMs. It can be a speechcraft program, YLP or having sessions in their places with them... or offering them the FTZTMs membership would help us to connect. We will not forget all our outside sessions we hold as a tradition, we will make sure everyone in fraternity can enjoy with their families. As I mentioned, we all know the power of association.”
Meanwhile, FTZ Toastmasters Club Katunayaka which archived many accolades in 2019-20 under the leadership of outgoing President Chulani Senviratne won the following awards from District 82 Toastmasters International USA/Sri Lanka which includes the Covid19 period Zoom Education Meetings: Gold Award, and the Prestigious Golden Gavel Award for being within the Best 10 clubs in the Sri Lanka District 82.
