Sri Lanka is facing a challenging year and to overcome this, tough financial discipline should be maintained, said Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga, Secretary, Finance and Mass Media Ministry addressing the staff of the Ministry yesterday. He further said that emphasis should also be given to foreign debt servicing in 2019.
Minister of Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera and State Minister of Finance Eran Wickramaratne were also present at the formal commencement of official duties of the Ministry in the New Year.
The Secretary said that during the last few years several meaningful steps were taken to increase government revenue and it was a victory. “However government expenditure too increased and in 2019 tough financial discipline should be maintained by officials to reduce this. “Our Ministry has to lead the way in this regard as we have a bigger responsibility being in the Ministry of Finance.”
