
EDEX Expo – Sri Lanka’s largest education exhibition and job fair will be opened at the BMICH tomorrow at 9 am.
City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education Minister, Rauff Hakeem will be the chief guest.
Principal Royal College, B.A. Abeyratne and EDEX, Chairman, Mahinda Galagedara will be among the distinguished guests at the opening ceremony of this 16th annual Exhibition and Job Fair, conducted by Royal College Union (RCU).
The three day exhibition which will be open for school children, university students, job seekers and the general public from 10 am to 6.30 pm each day will conclude on January 20. The Job Fair is expected to offer over 2500 local and overseas employment opportunities.
The objective of holding this annual exhibition and the job fair is to encourage Sri Lankan youth to pursue higher studies which help them to find professional employment here and abroad. Speaking to Daily News Business, Royal College, Principal, B.A. Abeyratna spoke on the value of receiving higher education by students and said EDEX exhibition will immensely help to fulfill their obligations,
Leading local and foreign universities from India, Japan, Australia, USA, UK, China, Singapore, Pakistan, Canada, Hungary, and Switzerland will make their representation at the exhibition and job fair.
Edex, Chairman, Mahinda Galagedara said that three exhibitions are held in Colombo and Kandy every year and the objective is to create the awareness of Sri Lankan youth about existing local and international educational courses. He said the forthcoming event immensely help students in urban, rural and remote areas to be aware of choices, options and opportunities in post-secondary education which is leading to gainful employment. Chairman Galagedara also mentioned that students who are pursuing higher education will be able to obtain educational loan facilities from both state and private banks. “In addition, educational institutes will also offer scholarships to our youth for higher studies.”
This year’s expo will also provide psychometric testing centre in collaboration with the National Career Guidance Association (NCGA) for the benefit of youth.
The EDEX will also launch the “Empower the Entrepreneur” programme to attract potential entrepreneurs and provide a platform to nurture them to be competitive with the regional, national and global brands.
Chairman Galagedara also mentioned that EDEX Nanapahana programme will host a special ceremony on January 19 to give away library books and educational equipment to underprivileged schools in the country.
