16th EDEX Expo-2019 from January 18 to 20

The much awaited Sri Lanka’s premier education exhibition and the job fair `EDEX Expo- 2019’ will be declared open at BMICH on January 18 commencing from 10.00 am.

The three-day exhibition which will be open for school children, university students, job seekers and the general public from 10.00 am to 6.30 pm each day will come to an end on January 20.

City Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education Minister, Rauff Hakeem, a distinguished old Royalist will be the chief guest on the opening day of this 16th annual EDEX Expo, conducted by Royal College Union (RCU).

During the media briefing it was revealed that thousands of Sri Lankan youth were able to pursue higher studies and also found professional employment here and abroad due to EDEX career guidance programmes, conducted in the past.

Royal College, Principal, B.A. Abeyratna talked on the value of receiving higher education by students especially, after their school career and said that EDEX exhibition will immensely help to fulfill their obligation.

EDEX, Chairman, Mahinda Galagedara highlighted that EDEX has been regarded as the country’s one and only educational and career guidance platform, conducting continuously for a long period of 15 years.

He also said that leading local and foreign universities from countries including India, Japan, Australia, USA, UK, China, Singapore, Pakistan, Canada, Hungary, and Switzerland will make their representation at the exhibition.

He said the forthcoming exhibition and the job fair immensely help students in urban, rural and remote areas to be aware of choices, options and opportunities in post-secondary education which is leading to gainful employment.

Chairman Galagedara also mentioned that students who are pursuing higher education will get credit facilities on concessionary terms and said both state owned and many private sector banks have introduced long-term educational loan facilities for students.

“It is also happy to see most universities and educational institutes offer full and partial scholarships to youth engaged in higher studies”, he said.

This year’s expo will also provide psychometric testing centre in collaboration with the National Career Guidance Association (NCGA) for the benefit of youth to go on the right career paths.

The EDEX will also launch the ‘Empower the Entrepreneur’ programme to attract potential entrepreneurs and provide a platform to nurture them to be competitive with the regional, national and global brands.

He also mentioned that EDEX Nanapahana programme will host a special ceremony at BMICH on January 19 in order to give away library books, educational equipment and furniture to selected underprivileged schools in the country.
