The Rotary Club of Cinnamon Gardens has had many achievements in the past Rotary year. It is headed by Arosha Jayasundera, as President, and ably assisted by Siri De Thabrew , Secretary and Sunimal Wijeratne, Treasurer and the committee and members.
The year started with their quiz programme – “Ask Me Another” which the club is famous for, chaired by Nishan Pieris, and this was held in August 2019. It was very well attended by other Rotary Clubs. The Club also made its mark helping the victims of the Easter attack, by donating a Multipara ”Monitor for Batticaloa hospital with funds raised by President Elect Kannan Thiagarajah and the balance by the Club.
Cinnamon Gardens Rotary Club also conducted a programme to assist school children by giving O/level Math tuition to school in in Panduwasnuwara. Other large notable projects include providing over one million worth of equipment for a Reverse water osmosis project, to help kidney patients in the North of Sri Lanka. The Club intends to help its “Tsunami School, ”Kaliwanchikudy, by handing over computers and printers. Most recently the Club donated one and half lakhs for heart surgery children in the programme called “ Don’t Skip A Beat. ” This will enable these children to fly to India for their operation. In terms of District Events. Cinnamon Gardens is involved in organizing the Rotary Leadership Seminar, with Nanda Corea leading this programme from the Club.
It is significant to note, that Cinnamon Gardens Rotary Club has one past District Governor, Imran Hassen, and the future District Governor, Aruni Malasekera ( 2021 – 22).
The club also has a few charter members still with it –including RuanRanatunga of DMS, who is notably also the Club’s first MajorDonor to theRotary Foundation.
