SriLanka Airlines loses Rs. 24.8 bn from April to July 2021

The National Carrier SriLankan Airlines has lost Rs. 24.8 billion rupees from April to July 2021, a Finance Ministry report said, as the generally loss-making airline faced even more difficult times during the C-19 pandemic.

SriLankan Airlines had lost Rs. 58,066 million rupees in the year to March 2021. In the four months to July the airline had carried 121,944 passengers compared to 166.969 for the whole of last year.

It had a seat factor or the ratio of passengers carried to available seat capacity of around 20 percent. Airlines usually have a seat factor of 70 % or above. The airline had carried 29,443 tonnes of cargo in the four months, compared to 56,406 tonnes for the whole of the previous year.
