The Association of Small & Medium Enterprises in Tourism, ASMET applauded the move by the Government to further open Sri Lanka tourism in a responsible and safe manner by relaxing regulations on vaccinated tourists visiting the country from non-travel restricted countries.
ASMET appreciates the efforts of Minister for Tourism, Prasanna Ranatunga as well the Chairperson for Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, SLTDA, Kimali Fernando in planning and coordinating the recovery of Sri Lanka tourism.
The ongoing pandemic devastated many SME businesses in tourism and a safe re- re-opening of the country will ensure that these businesses prevail.
In a multi-pronged approach to open Sri Lanka tourism, apart from easing travel restrictions for tourists, the Minister’s moves to develop plans to open more tourist sites, vaccinate staff of the tourism industry and set up a health lab at the Bandaranaike International Airport to conduct rapid PCR testing are recognized as valuable for the long term success of the re- re-opening. In a bid to increase visitor arrivals the Minister has also met with several international airlines.
ASMET commends the Minister and SLTDA for their untiring efforts to support the industry. ASMET wishes the Minister every success and strength in implementing the plan to re-open and acknowledges the need to expedite such measures to safeguard the SME sector in tourism. (FJ)
