Ride for Ceylon (R4C) along with their partners Manipay Hospital came forward to donate ICU beds to the Health Ministry and the sponsorship in this regard was made to Minister Namal Rajapaksa, (who is also a member for R4C) and Health Minister, Pavithra Wanniarachchi to be distributed to Hospitals in need at Temple Trees recently.
R4C began in 2017 as ‘Riders for Charity’ sponsoring a charity cycle ride through Sri Lanka known as the ’the pearl of the Indian Ocean’ to raise funds to redevelop and expand the historic Green Memorial Hospital, Manipay.
Ride for Ceylon, together with Friends of Manipay Hospital, have also engaged in several other initiatives in helping Sri Lankan people in their battle against the Covid-19 virus.
A brainchild of a group of Old Boys of S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia, R4C also aims to rebuild lives and communities devastated by three decades of civil war in Manipay area. Ride for Ceylon will host their 2021 race soon starting from Colombo and finishing in Manipay.
Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa offered his backing to the R4C project and also pledged logistical assistance for the cycle event.
