Colombo bourse witnessed a profit-taking spree yesterday and closed in the red zone amidst a 50 bps rate hike by CBSL.
Thus, the All Share Price Index declined by 82.8 points (-0.9%) to close at 8,260.1 whilst the S&P SL20 Index also decreased by 20.4 points (-0.7%) to close the day at 3,053.0. LOLC Holdings, LOLC Development Finance, Expolanka Holdings, Ambeon Capital, Ceylon Tobacco and remained as the top negative contributors to the ASPI during the day.
Further, the broader market’s total turnover stood at LKR. 5,459.7 mn against the 12-month average daily turnover of LKR 3, 391.3 mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 310,911.1k against the 12-month average daily volume of 190,491.4k. Transportation, Capital Goods, Diversified Financials and Food & Beverage sectors mostly contributed to the day’s turnover.
The top traded counters for yesterday were Expolanka Holdings LKR. 1, 771.9 mn (-3.9%), Browns Investments LKR 739.4 mn (+1.4%), LOLC Finance LKR 692.2 mn (+6.0%), Sierra Cables LKR 233.8 mn (+14.6%) and LOLC Holdings LKR225.4 mn (-3.4%). Foreigners were net buyers yesterday recording an inflow of LKR 26.6 mn during the day.
Foreign purchases stood at LKR 86.4 mn which were approximately witnessed in Expolanka Holdings, Softlogic Holdings, JAT Holdings and Sampath Bank whilst total foreign sales amounted to LKR. 59.8 mn, assumed to be seen in John Keells Holdings, Hemas Holdings, Dipped Products and Chevron Lubricants. Further, no off-board transactions were witnessed yesterday.
Additionally, Industrial Asphalts, Blue Diamonds, Sierra Cables, Nation Lanka Finance and Acme Printing & Packaging were the top price gainers yesterday whilst C.W. Mackie, Associated Motor Finance, Mahaweli Reach Hotel and Taprobane Holdings were the top price losers. Further, Browns Investments, LOLC Finance, Sierra Cables, Expolanka Holdings and Industrial Asphalts were amongst the most actively traded stocks yesterday.
