Eye catching and glamorous batik designs were featured in a solo Sri Lanka Fashion Show by Darshi Keerthisena, Creative Director of Buddhi Batiks at the 9th International Thai Silk Fashion Week held from November 18 to 22, 2019.
The Sri Lanka show on November 20, presented traditional wear as well as unique creations infusing contemporary fashion in to traditional designs and experimental pieces, combining elements from both Sri Lankan and Thai fashion created on Thai silk. This year, 44 countries showcased creative work of their national designers in the Fashion Week. 
A number of local and foreign media, international design houses, representatives of luxury brands, fashion designers, merchandisers, travel agents, etc., were present to witness the fashion week and several local media carried interviews with Dharshi Keerthisena, generating publicity for Sri Lankan creations.
The Fashion Week culminated in a Grand Fashion Extravaganza with the Heads of Diplomatic Missions including Sri Lanka and diplomats based in Bangkok, sashaying in specially designed creations from each country’s designers.
International Fashion Designer Jimmy Choo participated as a guest designer at the event, officiated by Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha, at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Center which was attended by over 3,000 guests.
The Fashion show and grand finale also provided an excellent opportunity to promote Sri Lanka as a travel destination through promotional videos, posters and fashionable garments and accessories.
Sri Lankan snacks and Ceylon Tea were enjoyed by all those who participated at the fashion show. Sri Lanka’s National carrier SriLankan Airlines was among the main sponsors of the event.
Initiated in 1976 by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit to promote and support the Thai Silk industry and to promote cross-cultural exchange between Thailand and participating countries through “silk diplomacy,” the project has now culminated in to the largest fashion extravaganza in Thailand, with the participation of 71 countries this year, featuring unique designs and national costumes of each country made with Thai Silk.
