The Government has decided to maintain the reduced embarkation, disembarkation tax for the Bandaranaike International Airport at US$ 50, top political sources told Daily News Finance, yesterday.
Earlier, the this embarkation, disembarkation tax was reduced from $ 60 to US$ 50 in the immediate aftermath of the Easter Sunday bomb carnage after which there was a devastating blow on the tourism industry.
The decision by Minister of Industrial Exports, Tourism and Aviation Prasanna Ranatunga to appeal to Treasury Secretary Sajith Attygalle to maintain the levy at US$ 50 till April 30 has borne fruition and will stay till that day, the sources said.
If not for the appeal of Minister Ranatunga to the Treasury Secretary, the tax reduction would have lapsed on January 31, they said.
