Footwear & Leather Fair begins on Feb. 7 at BMICH

The 12th edition of Sri Lanka’s Premier Footwear & Leather Fair organized by the Sri Lanka Footwear & Leather Products Manufacturers Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Industry & Commerce, Industrial Development Board and the Export Development Board, (EDB), would be held from February 7 to 9 at the BMICH.

The country’s annual footwear requirement is in the range of 60 million pairs, while the value of the industry is around Rs 60 to 70 billion. The current local manufacture’s share is in the range of 75% (45 million), while the balance 25% (15 million) is fulfilled by legal and illegal imports as well as assembled footwear.

The majority of footwear and Leather Products industries are situated in the Western Province. With the continuation of the safety net of CESS, the industry has become a major foreign Exchange saving industry in the country. 100% of the country’s school shoes requirement of 4.5 Million pairs is being produced by local Manufacturers. A design awards ceremony to encourage the upcoming designers and Best Stall competition too, has been organized to encourage the exhibitors to design their stalls in a more professional manner.
