Waters Edge, yet again proved its crowning glory when it cinched the “Culinary Team Championship 2019” trophy at the recently concluded Culinary Arts Food Expo 2019 at BMICH.
The overall championship status was flanked by five more coveted titles, namely, Colombo Region Championship 2019, Most Outstanding Hotel Runners Up 2019, Most Outstanding Kitchen Artist 2019, Most Outstanding Apprenticeship Team 2019and the Most Outstanding Chef Runners Up 2019. Overall, Waters Edge gallantly secured a record number of 20 gold, 15 silver and 24 bronze medals in total.
This 19th edition was organized by the Chefs Guild of Sri Lanka together with the World Association of Chefs Societies.
The award winners who were ranked according to their aptitude in meeting the standards of the most modern cross continental cuisine, along with their strength to entice the five senses, were also tested on their knowledge, technique and sheer versatility. An esteemed panel of over 30 international and local culinary judges awarded the titles based on the platform of creativity, hygiene, taste, texture and appearance across the teams.
With a display of amazing skill and talent in many cross-functional food and beverage disciplines and categories, the said culinary extravaganza witnessed Waters Edge culinary team work tirelessly executed an amazing array of dishes that were meticulously planned since 06 months ago, that included over 100 repetitions in cooking and culinary art to curate the perfect dish.
The commitment of the team of expert and newly absorbed chefs was well explained by Manjula Wickrama, the Executive Chef of Waters Edge, “Cookery or culinary is a discipline which demands total commitment. My team of chefs, despite Waters Edge being the key host for a multitude of functions on a daily basis, worked tirelessly through many days and nights to achieve this.”
Adding to this, Nalin Hewage, Executive Pastry Chef, Waters Edge also cited “Cookery is a highly dynamic discipline in which mastering each technique, persuasion and updated knowledge of taste, decoration to hygiene factors are highly essential.”
The Culinary Art Food Expo also offered a comprehensive trade platform for exhibitors across the world and attracts thousands of buyers and visitors to demonstrate and experience the trending new products, services and latest technology on offer, to create the most captivating dishes.
