Amidst a hefty turnover above LKR 6.0 billion, the Colombo bourse commenced the week on a high note yesterday whilst ASPI surpassed the physiological barrier of 8,000 levels, supported by significant price gains in value stocks.
Thus, the All Share Price Index increased by 55.6 points (+0.7%) to close at 8,022.6yesterday whilst the S&P SL20 Index also increased by51.7 points (+1.7%) to close the day at 3,081.9. Expolanka Holdings, LOLC Holdings, Browns Investments, John Keells Holdings and Vallibel One remained as the top positive contributors to the ASPI during the day.
Further, broader market’s total turnover stood at LKR 6,223.8mn against the 12-month average daily turnover of LKR 3,158.1mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 439,042.5k against the 12-month average daily volume of 178,924.4k.Transportation, Capital Goods and Diversified Financials were the main sectors that contributed to the daily turnover.
The top traded counters for yesterday were Expolanka Holdings LKR 2, 503.0mn (+15.2%), John Keells HoldingsLKR629.1mn (+2.2%), LOLC Holdings LKR 446.9mn (+4.4%), Commercial Bank LKR 362.9mn (+0.6%) and Browns Investments LKR 323.4mn (+4.8%). Foreigners were net sellers yesterday recording an outflow of LKR 1007.3mn during the day.
Foreign purchases stood at LKR14.3mn which were approximately witnessed in Aitken Spence, LOLC Finance, Vallibel Finance and Melstacorp whilst total foreign sales amounted to LKR 1,021.6mn, assumed to be seen in John Keells Holdings, Commercial Bank, Teejay Lanka and Browns Investments. Further, off-board transactions were witnessed in John Keells Holdings, Commercial Bank and Teejay Lanka yesterday.
Additionally, C.W. Mackie, Mahaweli Coconut Plantations, Malwatte Valley Plantations, Kandy Hotels, HNB Finance and Laugfs Power touched their 52-week high prices whilst HNB Assurance, Prime Land Residencies and SMB Leasing (Non-Voting) witnessed the 52-week low price point yesterday. Further, SMB Leasing (Non-Voting), Browns Investments, Expolanka Holdings, Industrial Asphalts and Dipped Products remained as the most actively traded stocks yesterday.
