Rotaract is a leading youth movement in Sri Lanka and belongs to Rotary International District 3220, which comprises of both Sri Lanka and Maldives. The Rotaract District Assembly is the annual event in which the District Rotaract Representative and the District Steering Committee is officially installed for the new Rotaract year. This year, we will be witnessing the 31st Rotaract District Assembly, which will be held on the 10th of July where Rtn. Rtr. Past President Akhila Wijetunga - the visionary who will be leading the Rotaract movement during the year 2021-22 and the District Steering Committee will officially assume their duties for the new Rotaract year. He, together with the ambitious District Steering Committee, aims to make life a living masterpiece with the hope of inspiring and motivating youth to serve the community while uplifting one another.
The Rotaract District Assembly this year will be an exhilarating experience, as the event will be a grand celebration of service that will be held virtually for the very first time, adhering to the COVID-19 restrictions due to the present situation of the country.
As one year draws to a close, the start of another exciting year awaits. Nevertheless, let us reminisce and celebrate the achievements of a remarkable year, which witnessed Rotaract reaching new heights despite the challenges imposed by the pandemic. During the past year, the Rotaract District 3220 was able to serve and uplift individuals from all walks of life under the guidance of the District Rotaract Representative for the year 2020-21, Rtn. Rtr. PP Kasun Sigera and his District Steering Committee. Winning the Rotaract Outstanding Project Award for the 5th consecutive year at the Rotary International Assembly, launching Rotaract’s very own mobile application “One Rotaract”, transforming 8 rural areas around the island focusing towards a path of sustainable development in aspects of education, economy and infrastructure under project Together SL, hosting 60+ initiatives dedicated towards the control of COVID-19 under the Stop the Spread initiative are only a few notable achievements of the District during the past Rotaract year. The unwavering service of Rotaractors is the sole driving force behind all the aforementioned achievements.
Founded in the year 1968 by Rotary International, Rotaract is a global youth movement that focuses on the development of young adults as leaders in communities and workplaces. It brings together people ages 18 and older to exchange ideas with leaders in the community, develop leadership and professional skills and have fun through service. Its roots in Sri Lanka dates back as far as 1969, and has seen an enormous growth over the years, expanding to 82 Rotaract clubs established around the country comprising of 8000+ energetic and inspiring young Rotaractors.
