Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa was presented with the 13 ARCASIA (Architects Regional Council of Asia) Covid-19 Guidelines (ACGs) booklet by Archt. Russell Dandeniya, President of the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects (SLIA) & Chairman of ARCASIA’s Committee on Social Responsibility (ACSR) as his first duty on being elected the President of SLIA, recently.
The presentation was made with Archt. Veranjan Kurukulasuriya, SLIA’s Immediate Past President, Archt. Migara Alwis and a team of Architects also present. These guidelines relevant to all countries of the world, including the Asian region were developed by the combined effort of the ACSR Covid-19 Taskforce comprising the ARCASIA Emergency Architects (AEA) Ar. Tony S F Wong (Hongkong), Ar. Thana Chirapriwat, (Thailand) Ar. Norwina Mohd Nawawi, (Malaysia) Ar. Farida Nilufer, (Bangladesh) Ar. Manguesh R Prabhgugaonker, (India) based on a research programme lasting over a period of 10 months during the Pandemic with a multi-disciplinary approach in consultation with doctors, town planners, poverty alleviation and public housing experts etc.
The Sri Lankan team comprised Architects Nandaka Jayasinghe, E A T Suresh, Sapumal Bandara, Kosala Weerasekara, and was also ably supported by Archt. Rasheed Rizvi, Archt. Shahida Jamaldeen, Dihan Dhamika and Tharith Arvinda.
