The Welikada Prison inmates will be moved to a newly constructed prison in Horana before the end of 2024, PrisonManagement and Prisoners’ Rehabilitation State Minister Lohan Ratwatte said.
He said that the constructions of the prison will commence in October. “We will close this prison and the 40-acre land that houses the prison will be given to a company for development. The prison in Horana will have a rehabilitation and training centre, gymnasium, hospital and a swimming pool,” he said.
