Sewn Exports was the proud recipient of the bronze award in large category at the 28th Annual NCE Export Awards ceremony. The premier awards ceremony conducted by the National Chamber of Exporters, specially designed to recognize and reward the outstanding performance of exporters of Sri Lanka was held at Shangri La Hotel on 25th February 2021. As a leading company that collects waste paper materials and exports them for recycling, Sewn Exports (www.sewnexport.lk) significantly contribute to solving the garbage problem, indirectly, in Sri Lanka. The company employs a large fleet of vehicles and an equally large staff to collect waste paper materials from factories, offices and households around the country.
Having started as a small business at Orugodawaththa, in 2010, they recorded 100,000 USD export revenue in their first year of operations. Their target is to become the biggest waste material exporter in Sri Lanka. Sewn Exports has remained in the waste material export sector for ten years and today it is one of the largest company in the waste material export sector. About 20 competitors are operating in the sector now. As a result of recycling waste paper materials number of trees cutting down for manufacturing, paper can be reduced considerably making a positive impact on the environment.
During the last 40 years, paper consumption has gone up from 400% while 35% of harvesting trees have been used for manufacturing paper materials. Currently, Sewn Exports collects waste paper materials from large scale state and private institutions and recycle them properly.
