HelpAge Eye hospital commences surgery after Covid-19 pandemic

HelpAge, Chairman Tilak de Zoysa has commended the HelpAge Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge and the HelpAge Eye Hospital staff for their effort taken to open the Eye Hospital within a short period after Covid- 19 pandemic situation.

He also highlighted that the three decades old HelpAge Eye Hospital has so far completed 37,000 free cataract surgeries on underprivileged senior citizens islandwide. “It is a great achievement of HelpAge Eye Hospital “ said de Zoysa.

Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge stated all possible arrangements were made considering the numerous requests made by underprivileged senior citizens islandwide who need to have their eye surgeries free of charge.

He said surgeries are performed completely free of charge by qualified doctors using high quality sophisticated medical equipment.

The Executive Director also requested all low income group senior citizens in all parts of the country to have their cataract surgeries completely free at this hospital.The Executive Director also thanked individual and corporate donors in the country for making donations to make this free surgery programme a success.

He also said the HelpAge Free Ayurveda Hospital at Borelasgamuwa also reopened for underprivileged senior citizens last week.
