The waiting area of the Colombo East Base Hospital, Mulleriyawa was renovated and expanded recently. It was opened by Hospital Directors, DirectFN team and the officers of Sri Lanka Army.
The project was initiated by DirectFN, a leading ICT company in the country to coincide with its 20th anniversary celebrations and contributed to this timely project through the donation of materials to carry out the renovations which was much need with the emergence of COVID 19.
“The hospital had to carry out its operations even with the present situation of COVID 19 adhering to the health guide lines issued by the Health Ministry. As almost all the clinics of the are carried out in this area, it was pressurizing to treat the patients with the congestion,” Colombo East Base Hospital Director, Dr. Priyanth Karunarathne said.
“At this time of need DirectFN and Army stepped up to our assistance and completed this project in a short span of time. Hospital’s Deputy Director Dr. Muditha Perera and Dr. Kasun Withana coordinated this project,” he added.
Dr. Kasun Withana pointed out that the renovated area will be used not only as a waiting area but also to carry out promotional health education. “Responsiveness in healthcare is a very important task, where little things make a big difference. With DirectFN’s sincere assistance and unprecedented support of the Sri Lanka Army made this project successful. All the hospital staff was also involved in this project and 600 square feet area was transform into a spacious place,” Dr. Withana explained.
Speaking at the opening, DirectFN, Director/Chief Technical Officer, Ruwan Aluthgedera said that this project is a small stepping stone and many more projects will be carried out in the future. “We have done so many CSR projects in Panadura, Kalubowila and Colombo Hospitals. DirectFN has many plans for the hospital in the future such as making this place a carbon zero hospital and generating its own electricity,” Aluthgedera said.
