Thaproban Beach House, one of the first hotels to be built in the Unawatuna area, would be reinvesting to enhance its products.
Managing Director Thambapanni Leisure, (owning company of Thaproban Beach House) Preshan Dissanayake, said the hotel was build in 1990 and it now needs a face lift. “We would be adding new furniture and be upgrading the rooms, while installing new equipment to meet the modern day demands.”
He said that the current refurbishment drive done without damaging the harmony of the guests within the hotel, would be completed within three months, keeping the property ready for the upcoming season.

He said that due to the Easter Sunday blasts last month, Tourism had taken the plunge, while the hoteliers too are making efforts to save revenue by adoption of ‘cost cutting’ measures.
He said that while most of the other hoteliers are closing down temporarily or retrenching their staff after the Easter Sunday blasts, he said that he would take this ‘lull’ opportunity to train their staff and reinvest.
He said that due to the blasts which resulted in low arrivals, some hotels are offering huge discounts and mega credit card promotions, to woo guests to their hotels. “We have not gone to that extent, but have special offers since this is the off season.”
The beginning of the Thaproban Beach House goes back to the 1990s when it commenced business as a simple, but friendly beach house called Thaprobane Rooms and Restaurant.
With the augmented demand and the glowing success, he decided to expand the hotel further, while today, it offers exclusive 14 rooms overlooking the beach.
It also has one of the most popular seaside and finest beach restaurants in the region, which has over 150 guests at any time.
With the success of Thaproban Beach House, he reinvested in his second boutique hotel, Thambapanni Retreat, comprising 22 designer rooms, while his third investment was Thaprobane Pavilion Resort & Spa built on the Unawatuna Beach with 16 well furnished rooms and a Spa. The hotel later built and opened the 26 roomed Thaprobane Waves in Unawatuna last year.
The ground was also broken in Galle Fort last month to build Thaproban Galle Fort boutique hotel. Thambapanni Leisure and Ayura Holdings Pvt. (Ltd.) would jointly invest Rs. 350 million for this 10 suite project catering for high end tourists.
