CIMA launches L.E.A.P. for aspiring professionals

The Student Development Committee of The Sri Lanka Country Network Committee of The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) recently launched the 2021 edition of L.E.A.P (Leadership Engagement for Aspiring Professionals), a unique mentoring programme for strategic level and exam complete students.

Held for the third time, the initiative is part of the Student Development Committee’s drive towards enhancing student capabilities and ensuring workforce readiness while providing access for professional networking.

The mentoring sessions will cover topics such as Career guidance, entrance and progression in the job market, with a focus on the current context, Ethics and Integrity at the Workplace,Time Management and Work-Life Balance, Leadership and Becoming a Value-Adding Finance Professional, with these specially focused towards addressing the specific challenges faced by students given the prevalent conditions.

The mentors are Bingumal Thewarathanthri, Chief Executive Officer Standard Chartered Bank, Deshan Pushparaja FCMA CGMA, Managing Director Global Markets and Investment Banking Capital Alliance Limited, Indresh Puvimanasinghe Fernando FCMA CGMA, Group Chief Process Officer Softlogic Holdings, Kamaya Perera ACMA CGMA, Partner KPM Gin Sri Lanka, Lakmini Wijesundara, Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer IronOne Technologies and Board PAC, Madhuka Jayasekara ACMA CGMA, Financial Controller Unilever Sri Lanka Limited, Malinga Arsakuleratne FCMA CGMA, Co-Owner CEO Acorn Group, Roshani Jayasundera Moraes, Executive Vice President John Keells Holdings, Sanath Fernando FCMA CGMA, Partner Ernst & Young Sri Lanka and Shiranthi Thewerapperuma ACMA CGMA, Head of Finance and Control Ceylon Oxygen.

Welcoming the audience at the CIMA LEAP 3.0 induction programme, Zahara Ansary, FCMA CGMA, Country Manager of CIMA in Sri Lanka said, “A mentor can be many things, They could be an advisor, a guiding light or simply a person that you can reach out to for all sorts of things, and in these challenging times, having someone as such will be of great assistance to our budding Management Accountants.”

Speaking at the session, Chief Guest Fadhil Jiffry FCMA, CGMA Chair CIMA Sri Lanka Country Network Committee, Director and Chief Financial Officer LSEG Sri Lanka stated, “LEAP is one of the flagship projects of CIMA Country Network Committee and we as a committee we are extremely pleased to be able to be launch it for the third time in 2021 despite the environment that we are in. The Country Network Committee works very closely with the CIMA Sri Lanka office driving its engagement activities for both Members and Students.”
