Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport achieves ACI Health Accreditation

AASL Chairman Major General (Rtd.) G. A. Chandrasiri presents the ACI Health Accreditation certificate to Aviation State Minister D. V. Chanaka.

After a strenuous audit process and reviewing the evidence presented to the Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Health Accreditation evaluation process, Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) has been accredited by Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Health Accreditation programme. ACI’s Airport Health Accreditation program assists airports by assessing new health measures and procedures introduced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in accordance with ICAO Council Aviation Recovery Task Force recommendations for a Safe Passenger Experience at Airports.

The ACI Airport Health Accreditation programme is designed to help reassure the travelling public that airport facilities remain safe and that precautions are being taken to reduce any risk to their health. The programme is supported by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and, since it was launched in July 2020.

MRIA has proved that it is providing a safe airport experience for all travellers which are in line with the recommended health measures established in the ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery guidelines and ICAO Council Aviation Recovery Task Force Recommendations, along with industry best practices.

Bandaranaike International Airport also received the ACI accreditation on 11th January 2021. Out of approximately 17,600 commercial airports around the world, 600 airports so far have registered to obtain this certification from ACI.

Out of the registered 600 airports, MRIA has completed the process and is amongst a few that has been awarded an all-important ACI health accreditation certificate.
