“All Eastern Province BOI Zone workers fully vaccinated”

All workers of the Board of Investment in the Eastern Province Zone are fully vaccinated while around 85% of staff of the Northern BOI factories have been vaccinated (up to July 4) , said Chairman BOI, Sanjaya Mohottala.

He made these observations while inaugurating the Covid-19 Intermediate Care Center at the Katunayake Free Trade Zone yesterday. More than 60% of the total workforce and staff of all the institutions have been vaccinated so far.” “in addition the first dose will be given to the staff of all other factories under the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka in the next two weeks and the second dose will be given before the end of next month,” Mohottala said.

The care center, which is housed in a building offered by Crystal Martin Ceylon, is supported by a number of other sponsors. The 500-bed facility is fully equipped with the latest technical appliances and facilities required by health services.

The Free Trade Zone Manufacturers’ Association has provided Rs. 10 million for this project and the Gampaha National Youth Services Council has donated 100 beds. Medical services at the care center will be provided by the Negombo General Hospital.

He also commended all concerned for the successful vaccination implemented which has resulted in a noticeable decrease in reported cases when compared to the second wave experienced last year. The health guidelines have changed according to the new Covid variants and all the factories will continue to be involved in the manufacturing process as per the new guidelines issued yesterday, he further added. General Manager, Isin Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, President of the Free Trade Zone Manufacturers’ Association, Jatinder Biala, mentioned that Sri Lankan industrialists pay more attention to employee safety and welfare in the manufacturing process. He said that under the current global epidemic, all countries are facing a number of major challenges, but all must work together to overcome this crisis.

Secretary of the Free Trade Zone Manufacturers’ Association, Dhammika Fernando, said that despite the situation, industrialists, while bearing a heavy cost to manage the pandemic, consider it a national responsibility, to maintain the job security of employees while ensuring that export performance is also maintained.
