For the first time in the world a young entrepreneur from Sri Lanka had opened up a new channel to create employment for travel agents and tour operators.
Infinity Global, Managing Director, George Paul is using them as sales representatives to market Sri Lanka tea as well as spices produced by Infinity Global Venture, Moratuwa. “We hope to extend this product basket.”
“Tourism is the worst hit industry due to the pandemic and Travel Agents, Tour Operators and other stakeholders find it difficult to make ends meet. Hence we decided to use them as our sales representatives to market ‘Insel’ products to the world,” stated Paul.

He said that they have already shipped some of their tea and spices under the brand name, ‘Insel’ to the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and France where their mother company Infinity Vacations (Pvt) Ltd has strong tourism links. “The Travel Agents and Tour Operators market these products to super markets earning a sizable income.
“We will also introduce herbal, ginger and coriander tea which is said to boost immunity against the corona virus. In addition to the tea market, we will also increase our product range in spices to the global market” he stated.
Commenting on the Sri Lankan operations he said that ‘Insel’ tea and spices are already in the local market but the products are not available at supermarkets. “We do not want to give large profits margins to super markets but are keen to give those profits to small time shops. We now use local tour guides and tour drivers as our sales team who in turn feed the local market with our products,” explained Paul.
“We have noted that the local tour guides and tour drivers are earning over Rs. 100,000 as commission for our sales! The shop owner also gets a higher commission by selling our products which come in foil packs while the end customer could purchase a pack of Insel products at a price lower than the branded tea sold in Sri Lanka.”
“A part of our Insel movement is to give back to the communities. We carefully choose our tea/grain to bring the right ambience with each sip and each taste, aiming to cater to a diverse clientele across borders in the near future. We will also invest more on our warehousing and also look at growing our own spice cultivation in Galaha as we see the demand for our products increasing. In a bid to produce a better market for the Moratuwa furniture industry we are also looking at building an online global market platform for them mainly as a CSR initiative,” Paul continued.
In a bid to create awareness, insel organized a product launch recently at Infinity Global head office in Moratuwa with the participation of the corporate, the marketing sector and cricketers.
