Chairman, Construction Industry Development Authority, (CIDA) Prof. N.T. Sohan Wijesekera while hailing the newly elected government, the President and the Prime Minister, expresses its commitment and readiness to fulfill their and national aspirations by lifting the construction industry back on track, helping it to regain the past reminiscence, rise well above the rest and then ensure its sustenance.
“We look forward to extending our unstinted support to the government and to serve the construction industry and our public with the use of new technology, latest IT tools and on-line capabilities that will boost the activities of the entire industry through good guidance, monitoring and evaluation.
One target is to provide a speedier high quality regulatory and capacity building service to all construction industry service stakeholders including trade personnel, construction contractors, property developers, material suppliers and professionals such as engineers, architects, quantity surveyors and adjudicators.
Skill development of the national workforce will be a prime concern in the construction industry. In the segment of strengthening tradesmen in general and then construction equipment operators, CIDA has a proud history where we had outperformed other similar institutions.
In the past few months, we have prepared fresh, innovative plans to train the national construction industry workforce under the post COVID-19 by fulfilling President’s vision for a Decade of Skill Development.Registration of qualified experts engaged in the construction industry, licensing of tradesmen including electricians and plumbers are some of the regulatory activities CIDA is presently focusing on, to provide a strong foundation for the construction industry and to take a lead role in the rapid national economic development targeted by the new government.
Onsite and offsite training of a craftsman population of 50,000 to work here and abroad and to be the driving force of our national economy is another mainstream corporate activity of CIDA, which is in the pipeline.
This national duty, which would be a key factor directly related to the grassroots level livelihood development is what CIDA aspire to achieve during the next few years with the blessings of the new government.
Among many conversations about what the construction industry requires to consider as part of the post COVID-19 economic recovery, there had been many voices stressing the importance of CIDA.
