Paradise Travels Nugegoda and E9 Travels South Korea commenced a program to send back Sri Lankan expatriate workers overseas again, helping Sri Lanka to get the foreign remittance earnings back.
Chairman Paradise Travels Nugegoda, Upul Thabrew said that and many Sri Lankans workers who came on holiday to Sri Lanka are now unable to go back to their work overseas due to the covid-19 pandemic and air travel restrictions and other matters. “If this situation keeps continuing it will have major negative impact for foreign remittances the number one FOREX earner for Sri Lanka.”
“Hence I contacted several overseas recruitment agencies and embassies and commenced a program to send back Sri Lankan workers with the assistance of Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bauru, (SLFEB),” he said.
Due to these initiatives we are now in position to send back 160 Sri Lankan workers back to Korea for employment. These 160 have been quarantined and Corona Free medicals certificates of international recognism has been issued allowing them to enter Korea and then work.”
A special A 330 charter flight of Myanmar Airwayswill arrive to Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA) today to fly back these 160 to Seoul. This initiative will also provide revenue to MIRA via refilling, supplies and airport taxes. He said this operation also prove the viability and benefits of constructing a second international airport in Sri Lanka.
He also thanked SLFEB Chairman, Kamal Ratwatte and Director General Mangala Randeniya, Chairman E Travels, Sandakelum Suraweera and staff of MRIA who assisted to make this event a success. “We will soon continue this operation to other countries as well.” (ss)
