Sathkaara Foundation to build Children’s Home in Nikaweratiya

Sathkaara Foundation, the non-profit organization of Future Life Investment Limited, (SLI) for the first time would be building and maintaining a model Children’s Home for Girls in Nikaweratiya this year.

The ‘Sathkaara’ would be investing over Rs. 50 million for this project for which the government land has also been allocated and approvals from government authorities too have been obtained.

An official from Sathkaara Foundation said that the project would include four buildings including a hostel and preschool. “Students from the villages too could attend this preschool.” The foundation will also tie up with a Brazilian Lumia School to get their guidance towards maintaining this centre.

In addition to this Sathkaara Foundation will also provide goods and services for schools to the tune of Rs. 7.5 million this year. These include building two libraries for schools with e-books, providing 4,500 packs which include books, shoes, school bags and other study material for needy school children in rural areas.

“Usually these donations are distributed end of the year and well wishers too could join in this initiative by providing us library books and other material for any of the 15 Future Life Investment Limited braches or head office in Kadawatha. They could also donate though our web site, www. Sathkaara.lk”

He stressed that Sathkaara Foundation would not accept any cash donations.

In 2019 Sathkara provided a water motor and Teacher Salaries for the Kokilai Sinhala School on a request made by the Buddhist Temple in the area.

In addition library books were provided to Daluggala School and Ithewa School in North East.

In a bid to offer meditation for teachers, series of programs were conducted by Ven. Athurugiriye Damma Thera for selected schools. Sathkara Foundation also sponsored several Training programs conducted by Dr. Chaminda Weerasekara on leadership for parents.

On proposals received by the public, Sathkara Foundation build several toilets for schools where sanitary facilities were not available.

This year we will be building house for a under privileged family with three children who study in Dehiwatta school.

“We also get the Ministry of Education recommendation before we embark of these initiatives for needy schools.”

According to the school census carried out in 2017 by the statistics branch of the Ministry of Education 16% of the schools have no water source whatsoever. The total number of schools being 10,194, this figure remains at alarming level. In addition to that 3% of all schools have no electricity and statistics were not available as to how many schools have no sanitary facilities. “Our aim is to help breach this gap through the Sathkara Foundation initiative.”
