Malaysian entrepreneurs are keen to invest over USD 150 million in the Northern Province in the next three years Deputy Chairman, Malaysia Sri Lanka Business Council, (MSBC) Krishna Kumara said at the opening of the three day Jaffna International Trade Fair, (JITF) on Friday.
He said that t Malaysian investors are keen in investing in housing, hospitality, and alternative energy and leisure sector projects. He said that they have modern technology which can reduce the cost of energy bill by almost 70% and are keen to introduce this to Sri Lanka and Jaffna as well.
He said that thorough Asia Leisure they have over 30 hotels in Sri Lanka and they will look at extending their foot print in Jaffna as well.
Krishna Kumara said that the Malaysian government too is egging their investors to look at investment opportunities in Sri Lanka and currently there is a Malaysian business delegation in Sri Lanka.

He said that they will also look at the possibility of offering technology knowledge to Northern entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile, Governor of the Northern Province, P.S.M. Charles was the Chief Guest at the opening of JITF requested the Malaysian investors to visit the Achchuveli Industrial Zone, the largest mixed industrial zone in the region if it was suitable for their investments.
“Due to the 30 year conflict Northern Province was pushed back by 40 years against other regions and time has come to catch up on lost opportunities.”
She also appealed from the Tamil Diaspora, intellectuals and youth who left the Northern Province to come back and help develop the region. Meanwhile, Consul General, Consulate General of India, Jaffna, S. Balachandran said that the Indian government has inked an MoU enabling Jaffna youth to get opportunities in the ICT sector. This includes working online for Bangalore based Call Centers.
JITF, is the biggest and one of a kind event in the Northern Province and this too has helped towards the development of the Northern business sector.
