Malaysia offers incentives following fall in inbound travel

The Malaysian Travel Office in Chennai assisted a travel information session organized by Malindo air.

The session follows a decline in Sri Lankan tourists from 42,118 to 30,106 representing a decline of 28.7 percent. The session was targeted at Sri Lankan travel agents. The event took place at the Kingsbury on 21 January.

The Malaysian government has made available multiple tax incentives to tourists.

The government is offering rebates on tax components on airfare and even offering financing by Malaysian institutions for the organizing of events on Malaysian soil. Malaysia is to open 5 theme parks in the coming year.

The country has also invested heavily in internal travel infrastructure with rail links between Kuala Lampur International Airport and the Malaysia International Trade and Convention Centre (MITEC). MITEC is able to accommodate up to 47,700 visitors in theatre-style seating and 28,300 in banquet seating at any one time.
