Deputy Secretary to the Treasury, S R Attygalle called on public servants to work towards meeting the aspirations of the people. He was speaking at a function to mark the commencement of duties in 2020 and the pledge ceremony of public servants.
Addressing the gathering, Attygalle said, “We all work but I think it could be improved. Don’t spend time alone. Don’t waste your time filing petitions against each other. It gives you that satisfaction. It doesn’t get any better. But that time can be spent answering an official letter.”
“For a long time, we have been accused of not answering letters and not giving guidance to other ministries and government agencies. He said that by 2019, the Secretary of State had requested to forget all that was done and to carry out the duties effectively.”
He said, “President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has presented the vision of prosperity. It has now become the national program of the country. People have fresh hopes. We have to break free from the tradition of achieving those aspirations. The youth leadership should be given the opportunity. Make decisions on that. Mistakes are ok. Anyone can have new ideas. Sometimes the driver of the Director General’s vehicle may have ideas. The office assistant can have ideas. Don’t ignore the comments of the Director General’s driver.”
Attygalle added, “The country has become stagnant. The businesses have collapsed, and their property mortgage is about to fall. About 60% of our country is owned by SMEs. That is why the government decided to treat them with special interest and give them some relief. We will be giving them relief at the bank level within the next week.” Minister of State for Development Banking and Loan Scheme Shehan Semasinghe also attended the event.
