Regional Head - Pan Asia HMD Global (Nokia) Ravi Kunwar, said that the Nokia 2.3 offering to hit the market soon, would be providing Nordic standards at a price point currently dominated by Chinese phones. Kunwar was speaking at a press conference at the Movenpick Hotel on December 17.
The Nokia 2.3 is an Android One Smartphone with a 6.2 - inch display and is a successor to Nokia 2.2.
Kunwar, speaking about the price segment said, “We are the only real Nordic or European brand. This is a differentiator to us. That is why we continue to drive all efforts to bring the latest software upgrades. We continue to offer three years of security updates and 2 years of software updates.”
The Android One brand promises regular security updates for three years and Android OS updates for two years.
Kunwar said that this phone would have better resale value than phones without the Android One assurance. He said, “If I give you this phone and it is up gradable to the latest software, even 2 years after use who do you think would have a better resale value? I buy this product and it normally has to depreciate, but since it has the software upgrade which is equivalent to a new product versus the product from the competition which is sitting on 2-year-old software. I believe our products have better resale value if the consumers look into benefits we bring with our commitments.”
He said, “It is a clear winner in this value segment that we are trying to attrack. It would be available soon in the Lankan market.” The phone offers a face unlock security feature. Kunwar said other brands offer this feature, but “Face unlock with what probability? People claim there are face locks and there are stories how even with a photograph you could unlock it. It is with what depth you could unlock the faces that we are talking about.”
Kunwar cited the Nokia 3310 and on quality said, “We continue with that. In terms of our product philosophy, we continue to follow stringent quality control and longevity in our products.”
He added, “In terms of maintaining quality standards, we do drop tests. There are various elements of support that you put in. If you look at Nokia 800 which is a feature phone, it is a military-grade drop test. This phone has gone through a drop test with a 6.2 screen.”
