SPAR Sri Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, a leading voluntary food retail supermarket group in the country has partnered with HelpAge Sri Lanka (HASL) in their endeavor of collecting funds from the general public to perform free cataract surgeries for less- privileged Senior Citizens.
SPAR would be helping HelpAge with charity tills in their supermarket outlets at SPAR Union Place in Colombo, SPAR Kalubowila, Dehiwala and SPAR Thalawathugoda in Nugegoda to enable customers to make donations towards this worthy cause. SPAR is a newly established supermarket offering customers fresh meat, fish, foods-to-go, bakery, fruit and vegetables, grocery and personal care items in modern and conveniently located stores. SPAR prides itself on delivering great service, exceptional fresh assortment and great value to its consumers.
The partnership between the SPAR and HelpAge Sri Lanka was agreed by SPAR Operations Manager, Craig Hall and HelpAge Sri Lanka Executive Director, Samantha Liyanawaduge.
Operations Manager Hall said SPAR is planning to open 50 supermarkets in leading cities and towns within the next five years.
He further said SPAR often steps in by helping needy citizens to improve their health conditions and social activities through their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
HelpAge Executive Director Samantha Liyanawaduge thanked SPAR for their invaluable support to improve the vision and other services to needy people in our society. He also said that free cataract surgeries are performed at its Eye Hospital at Sinsapa Road, Wellawatte and also provides needy citizens with free disability equipment such as wheelchairs, crutches, hearing aids, spectacles and conduct free mobile medical and eye camps islandwide.
Executive Director Liyanawaduge also highlighted that HelpAge is a non-profit charitable organization that works to resolve the social and medical issues faced by elderly Sri Lankan citizens.
Meanwhile, HelpAge appeals to any interested parties to join hands to improve the living standards of needy elders.
