Beard Papa’s, an internationally recognised chain of cream puff stores originating from Japan under parent company Muginoho Co. Ltd., commemorating its 20th anniversary since its inception in 1999, entered the local market to introduce its highly sought-after offerings to the Sri Lankan consumer.
This was made possible through Akihabara - Japanese Style Restaurant, the agent company that enabled the Beard Papa’s brand to be brought to the island through a franchise agreement.
Seeing much potential in, and with an aim to satisfy the ever-growing Sri Lankan consumer base with a genuine taste of Japan’s sweeter delicacies, the company launched its first Beard Papa’s outlet on the Lower Ground Level of the One Galle Face Mall, Shangri-La, Colombo, on November 8, 2019.
Keeping true to its roots and reiterating authenticity, with the company slogan “Oishii, from Japan to the World” (Oishii - Delicious), this highly-anticipated launch will see Beard Papa’s initially introduce its internationally popular delicacies which include ‘Cream Puff’, ‘Mini Puff’ and ‘Kaze Kaze’, which are categorised as buns, and ‘Cookies’ and ‘Rusks’.

“We invite all Sri Lankans to visit our brand new Beard Papa’s outlet at One Galle Face, Shangri-La, and savour the taste of fresh and authentic Japanese cream puffs,” said Hirofumi Tsuda, Director of Muginoho Global PTE. Ltd.
It was the year 1999, when Yuji Hirota opened his first bakery in the small town of Osaka, Japan. People in the town couldn’t resist the aroma that spewed the streets, or the kind face of Hirota.
Hirota’s fluffy white beard was a unique feature, as he was often referred to as ‘Beard Papa’ by his regular customers.
He then decided to make a puff-pastry as fluffy and lovable as his beard, and cream puffs were just the treat. With immense positive feedback from satisfied people, Hirota was prompted to open his second store to satisfy the demand and accommodate all of his new friends.
Advancing further, Hirota saw success with his bakery business, and to date, has opened over 400 Beard Papa’s outlets worldwide that have the best cream puffs ever made.
