Seminar on untapped potential of sugar industry in national development

The Institute of Chemistry is organizing a seminar on 'Untapped Potential of Sugar Industry in National Development' on September 11.

The seminar will be held from 8.00 am to 3.30 pm at Adamantane House, Rajagiriya.

The seminar will feature the following topics by experts in the field: Process Technology of Sugar Manufacture by Prof. R.N. Pathirana, former Professor, Department of Chemistry, University of Ruhuna; Present Status of Sugar Industry in Sri Lanka by Dr. A.P. Keerthipala, Director, Sugar Cane Research Institute; Untapped Potential of Sugar Industry by Dr. M.W.N. Dharmawardena, Founder Director, Sugar Cane Research Institute; Environmental Effects of Sugar Cane Cultivation by Prof. Kapila Gunasekara, former Senior Professor, former Vice Chancellor, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya; Foreign Investment for Sugar Industry Development and Employment Generation in Sri Lanka by Luxman Siriwardena, Executive Director, Pathfinder Foundation; Standards of Sugar and its Products by Wathsala Mudalige, Assistant Director, Sri Lanka Standard Institute; and Sugar and Health by N.M.S. Hettigedara, President, Dietitians’ Association of Sri Lanka.

There will discussion sessions too. Attendees will be awarded a certificate and a folder of materials with the presentations.
