Dull investor sentiment continues

Colombo equities demonstrated negative investor sentiment yesterday. The Benchmark Index, ASPI closed the day at 6,350.40 points, losing 17.72 points or -0.28%.

This was mainly due to price losses in counters such as CLC.N (LKR3.30, -8.33%), DIAL.N (LKR10.50, -1.87%), HNB.N (LKR220.00, -1.35%), COCR.N (LKR67.10 -4.28%) & SPEN.N (LKR65.00, -2.26%).

The Blue Chip Index S&P SL20 also declined by 15.80 points or-0.44% to close at 3,540.05.

Foreigners took the position of net buyers for the day, recording a net foreign inflow of LKR37mn for the day.COMB.N recorded the highest turnover for the day of LKR 191.9mn, followed by NEST.N (LKR66.1mn) and TJL.N (LKR 44.8mn).The day saw turnover decrease by 51.8% to LKR 493mn compared to the last trading day.

Banking, Finance and Insurance Sector managed to record the highest turnover of LKR 275.1mn for the day, followed by the Beverage, Food and Tobacco Sector and Manufacturing Sector with daily turnovers of LKR 83.9mn and LKR 68.4mn respectively.

Year to date ASPI Performance stood at -7.5%, while Year to date Blue Chip Index decreased -1.6%.

Out of the 192 counters traded today, 90 companies declined while 40 companies closed higher.
