Beverage Food, Tobacco Sector record highest turnover

Colombo equities demonstrated negative investor sentiment yesterday. The Benchmark Index, ASPI closed the day at 6,227.34 points, losing 7.41 points or -0.1%. This was mainly due to price losses in counters such as JKH.N (LKR144.60, -0.96%), CCS.N (LKR750, -2.04%), CTC.N (LKR840, -0.71%), LION.N (LKR479.50, -2.72%) & SEYB.N (LKR85.10,-5.13%). The Blue Chip Index S&P SL20 also declined by 7.89 points or-0.2% to close at 4,825.63.

Foreigners took the position of net sellers for the day, recording a net foreign outflow of LKR 97mn for the day.

CTC.N recorded the highest turnover for the day of LKR156.23mn, followed by JKH.N (LKR53.71) and TJL.N (LKR45.28mn).

The day saw turnover decrease by 20.6% to LKR 427mn compared to the last trading day.

Beverage Food and Tobacco Sector managed to record the highest turnover of LKR161.23mn for the day, followed by the Diversified Holdings Sector and Manufacturing Sector with daily turnovers of LKR68.24mn and LKR66.52mn respectively.

Year to date ASPI Performance stood at -9.3%, while Year to date Blue Chip Index decreased -3.0%.

Out of the 198 counters traded yesterday, 55 companies declined while 43 companies closed higher.
