The government has decided to allocate 15,000 acres of land in areas such as Hambantota,Matara and Moneragala for the establishment of special economic zones (SPZs), Development Strategies and International Trade Minister Malik Samarawickrema said.
The lands will be awarded for potential investors to set up business ventures at the proposed economic zones in the Southern province. (IH)
The government is currently in the process of identifying state-owned lands to initiate these projects.
Under the project, the government expects US$ 4 to 5 billion worth investment projects in the next three to four years and the Minister expressed hope that the projects can create 90,000 direct jobs and 310,000 indirect jobs.
