VIDULLANKA commissions first ‘Ground Mounted Solar PV Power Plant’ at Monaragala today

Vidullanka PLC will commission its first ground mounted Solar PV plant with a capacity of 1MWp at Monaragala constructed over a five-acre land situated in Maraawa, Monaragala. The project developed under the subsidiary, Orik Corporation (Pvt) Ltd, is expected to generate 1.5GWh of energy annually to the national grid. The project was constructed under the “Soorya Bala Sangramaya Phase II” launched by Ceylon Electricity Board in collaboration with Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority.

“Looking at the geographical location of Sri Lanka and other advancements in the solar technology, solar power generation would be Sri Lanka’s one of the best options in achieving its goals in low carbon electricity generation and providing low-cost electricity to the people, in light of the pressing need to meet the growing demand and in assisting the government’s policy target of achieving 70% of the electricity generation from Renewable Energy Sources,” an official from Vidullanka said.

The Power plant consists of 1,870 numbers of 535Wp PV Modules erected on a fixed tilt on the ground and supplies the national grid through Monaragala grid substation. Plant is in full compliance with the “CEB Guide for Grid Interconnection of Embedded Generators”.

The CEO, Riyaz Sangani, addressing their annual AGM forum, highlighted that the company has achieved highest ever profit on record of Rs. 595 million during the last financial year, recording an impressive 35% compounded annual growth rate on revenue over the last five years and the electricity output has grown at the rate of 30% during the same period.

The Chief Executive also highlighted that the company is actively pursuing Solar project development in Sri Lanka whilst pursuing both Hydro and Solar developments in Africa, notably Uganda, Zambia and Malawi
