According to the latest Table of Precedence published by the Government, the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has been placed in the fifth position on par with the Leader of the Opposition, Cabinet Ministers and the Field Marshal.
Earlier, the CBSL Governor was ranked 20th. The first four slots are occupied by the President, Prime Minister, Speaker and the Chief Justice. In the sixth position are the Governors of Provinces followed by the Chief Ministers of Provinces and State Ministers in the seventh rank.
This Table of Precedence is intended to be applied during State ceremonial occasions such as Independence Day. Religious and Ecclesiastical Dignitaries will be assigned appropriate precedence. The President may exercise his discretion to grant courtesy precedence to persons or officers not placed on the Precedence Table.
