SLFFA congratulates CASA on 55 years of excellence

Dinesh Sri Chandrasekara, Chairman of SLFFA

The Sri Lanka Freight Forwarders Association (SLFFA) express their congratulations and best wishes to the Ceylon Association of Ships’ Agents (CASA), who proudly mark 55 years of yeoman service to the shipping agency segment this year.

Established in 1966, CASA held their first AGM on June 29 of that year, with P.C.S Fernando as the first Chairman. Currently, Shehara De Silva of McLarens Group is the Chairperson of this landmark association, with Iqram Cuttilan of Aitken Spence as Immediate Past Chairman.

Commenting on this occasion, Dinesh Sri Chandrasekara, Chairman of SLFFA said, “We would like to sincerely congratulate CASA on achieving this milestone, as a most respected association in Sri Lanka’s maritime industry. The role of the ship agent is intensely involving and complex, carrying a vast amount of responsibility, yet it is rather overlooked.”

“Few of those outside the industry are aware of the gravities of this role, and we are grateful to CASA for being the strong, clear voice of Sri Lankan ship agents.”

Highlighting the importance of the shipping industry as a whole is the reason why we have World Maritime Day, which was conceptualised to focus attention on the importance of shipping and other maritime activities and emphasizing the myriad of parties who work in symphony across the maritime environment. We must also acknowledge the International Maritime Organisation or IMO, the specialised agency under the United Nations that is responsible for regulating the maritime industry”.

Sri Chandrasekara went on to express gratitude at the long-standing relationship between CASA and SLFFA, saying “CASA and SLFFA have always enjoyed a longstanding relationship that has been built on a foundation of trust, collaboration and assistance.”

“ As we move into a bold new future where shipping and freight forwarding are facing new challenges due to the global pandemic situation, such collaborations become paramount to ensure a win-win situation for all parties”.
