Bourse loses steam trying to break 10,000 ASPI – Acuity Stockbrokers

The Bourse ended the week on a negative note this week with ASPI decreasing by 55.08 points (or 0.57%) to close at 9,623.81 points, while the S&P SL20 Index also decreased by 66.53 points (or 1.84%) to close at 3,546.61 points.

Turnover and Market Capitalization

Expolanka was the highest contributor to the week’s turnover value, contributing LKR 1.71Bn or 12.11% of total turnover value. Sampath followed suit, accounting for 8.04% of turnover (value of LKR 1.14Bn) while Browns Investments contributed LKR 1.12Bn to account for 7.89% of the week’s turnover. Total turnover value amounted to LKR 14.16 Bn (cf. last week’s value of LKR 18.99 Bn), while the daily average turnover value amounted to LKR 2.83Bn (-25.46% W-o-W) compared to last week’s average of LKR 3.80Bn. Market capitalization meanwhile, decreased by 0.57% W-o-W (or LKR 24.55 Bn) to LKR 4,288.57 Bn cf. LKR 4,313.12 Bn last week.

Liquidity (Value & Volume)

Capital Goods Industry Group was the highest contributor to the week’s total turnover value, accounting for 25.54% (or LKR 3.62Bn) of market turnover. Industry Group’s turnover was driven primarily by Royal Ceramic, Vallibel One and ACL which accounted for 49.28% of the sector’s total turnover. Food Beverage & Tobacco Industry Group meanwhile accounted for 17.34% of the total turnover value while Banks Industry Group contributed 16.07% to the weekly turnover.

The Food Beverage & Tobacco Industry Group dominated the market in terms of share volume, accounting for 33.71% (or 205.26 Mn shares) of total volume, with a value contribution of LKR 2.45Bn. The Materials Industry Group followed suit, adding 13.24% to total volume (80.63 Mn shares) while Capital Goods Industry Group contributed 12.32% (75.03 Mn shares) to the weekly share volume.

Foreign investors were net sellers this week with a total net outflow amounting to LKR 0.12 Bn relative to last week’s total net outflow of LKR 0.30 Bn (58.4% W-o-W). Total foreign purchases decreased by 23.6% W-o-W to LKR 0.16Bn from last week’s value of LKR 0.21Bn, while total foreign sales amounted to LKR 0.28Bn relative to LKR 0.50Bn recorded last week (-43.9% W-o-W).
