Opening up new vistas in the Sri Lankan tourism landscape, Sri Lanka’s largest gymnasium, High Octane Gym in Kohuwela (HOG) would be introducing ‘Fitness tourism’ from mid next year.
Celebrating 7 years of operations and transforming Sri Lanka’s fitness landscape with several ‘firsts’ to the industry, the management is now looking to introduce this concept when the C-19 epidemic settles. “We will introduce a special 14-day ‘fitness Tourism package’ to the world through travel agents. We will also get a few Colombo and outstation star class hotels to be host to guests,” said High Octane Gym in Kohuwela Director, Ashanthi Weerasinghe.
“We will also add hikes, water and adventure sports to this tour with a vehicle and driver, making it a complete package giving the opportunity for tourists to travel outside Colombo as well.”
HOG also hopes to go international through a ‘franchise model’ and already plans are afloat to open two Gym’s in Bangladesh and the Maldives when pandemic settles.
Today High Octane Fitness, Sri Lanka’s premier fitness & lifestyle gym has a member base of over 1000 full time, members and new members are currently enrolled.
HOG boasts of handpicked professional Trainers that comprises medal winning athletes who have represented Sri Lanka in Commonwealth, Asian and other international sporting events. “All our world class equipment is imported from the USA.”
In a bid to offer healthy foods to members and also other guests HOG also introduced a restaurant at the same venue and today it is the ‘number one’ for Uber deliveries. The physiotherapy unit which is another novel introduction to the HOG. It has an Indian quailed doctor, separate staff and treatment rooms that were added to treat back pains and stress removal. This unit through its treatment and care has stopped several people going for complex surgeries. Though fitness is one of the key pillars for a healthy life, sadly, ‘Gyms’ were the last to be opened by health authorities after the lock down. “HOG during the lockdown provided fitness classes and lessons via Zoom to keep its members and 55 staff occupied rather than going for ‘job and pay cuts’.” The gym is now fully functional adopting new health standards and maintaining social distancing. “We have invested nearly Rs. 2 million to install special health scanning equipment.”
“We have also invested in a new machine to provide health checks to guests which would be done monthly to monitor progress.”
