The Government has prepared guidelines for the use of the passengers who arrived in the country under repatriation flights and who use the Duty Free Shopping Complex, Chairman of the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd Major General, G.A. Chandrasiri told Daily News Business.

The guidelines have been prepared by the Covid 19 Clinical Management Expert Committee of the Ministry of Health and Sri Lanka Tourism and the report has been prepared on December 3, 2020, he said.

He said that the repatriation flights will also continue to operate while the airports will be open for foreign tourists during the month of January 2020. The report said that the Sri Lankan expatriate passengers, who come under the repatriation flights, are allowed the use of the Duty Free Shopping Complex at the BIA and make payments at the BIA. He also said that these passengers who purchase confectionary, perfumes and cosmetics could be carried by the passengers directly or get collected by a nominee, family member or associate.

Due to strict health guidelines, the other products which could be purchased by the passengers will have to be collected from the airport by a nominated family member or an associate.

Passengers who had not availed themselves of their duty free baggage allowance due to the Covid-19 pandemic and all those who have completed their mandatory quarantine period are allowed to purchase their duty free items from the arrivals counter of the Duty Free Shopping Complex at the BIA.

Eligible passengers shall be granted a maximum period of one month from the date of completion of the Covid–19 quarantine process, to visit the Duty Free Shopping Complex at the arrivals terminals of the BIA to purchase goods using their duty free baggage allowance.
