The Colombo Tea Auction which completed on Monday (Auction No. 14) saw Low Growns meeting with good demand once again. BOP1 / OP1s sold at dearer rates all-round. OP / OPAs gained in value.
Pekoe’s were substantially dearer all-round, whilst well-made Pekoe1’s held firm; others sold at dearer rates, Asia Siyaka Commodities Senior Vice President Sohan Samaranayake told Daily News Finance.
In the Tippy Small leaf catalogues FBOP1s held firm, whilst well-made stylish FBOPs were irregularly lower; others gained in value. FBOPF1s sold at dearer rates, he said. FBOPFs appreciated in value too. BOPs were a firm to dearer market, whilst select best BOPFs held firm; others were firm to dearer. In the Premium Flowery catalogues select best long leaf tippy teas were fully firm on last, whilst small leaf tippy teas appreciated in value.
The much smaller quantities on offer met with fair general demand. Best Western BOPs were irregular on quality, whilst the below best were firm to slightly dearer. Their better BOPFs were dearer but others were irregular. Nuwara Eliya BOPs sold well but at a slightly lower rates. BOPFs were about firm. Udapussellawa BOPs gained Rs. 20 to Rs. 30 whilst BOPFs were lower. Uva BOPs maintained, whilst BOPFs were firm to dearer. Medium BOPs were lower but BOPFs gained up to Rs. 20. At the 3rd E-Auction held on 18th – 19th April 2020 (Sale 14) Finlays Tea Estates PLC’s Oodoowerre Estate, Demodara achieved all-time record price for Uva High grown OP grade by achieving Rs. 850 per kg. This tea was purchased by Akbar Brothers Ltd.
Following on their last week’s record breaking performance, Oodoowerre equaled to its own record for FBOPF1 grade Rs. 980 set in last week. This tea was purchased by Inter Tea (Pvt) Ltd. Both teas were successfully market by Asia Siyaka Commodities PLC.
