Iraq, Turkey, Russia Iran in top slots though low quantities

The Top four destinations of Iraq, Turkey, Russia and Iran maintained the top slots in order even though importing less volume. With the exception of Chile and Saudi Arabia who have bought 0.92 Mn kgs and 0.36 Mn kgs more than last year all other destinations have imported significantly lower quantities.

At the last Auction, Low Growns met with fair demand. BOP1 sold at dearer rates all-round, whilst select best OP1s sold at lower rates; others sold at firm to dearer rates, Asia Siyaka Director/Senior Vice President Dhammika Wedande told Daily News Finance yesterday.

“OP/OPAs were fully firm on last week’s levels. Well-made Shotty Pekoe / Pekoe1’s gained in value, whilst poorer varieties eased Rs. 10 to Rs. 15. Select best FBOP1 / FBOPs sold at lower rates, whilst others were firm on last week’s levels,” he said.

FBOPF1s sold at lower rates all-round. FBOPFs gained in value. BOP / BOPFs held firm on last week’s levels with few teas sold at dearer rates. In the Premium Flowery catalogues long leaf and small leaf tippy teas were dearer and met with good demand.

Fair general demand at slightly lower rates prevailed for the larger volume offered for the Ex-Estates. Best Western BOP / BOPFs tended irregular and sold at lower rates; below best were about firm, whilst the bottom BOPs gained up to Rs. 20. BOPFs were lower up to Rs. 40. Nuwara Eliya BOPs sold lower, but continued attractive prices. Udapussellawa BOP / BOPFs were a lower market. Uva BOP / BOPFs were lower Rs. 20 to Rs. 40. Medium BOPs were a strong market, whilst BOPFs were irregularly lower. Better CTC BP1s gained Rs. 30 to Rs. 40 and similarly the better PF1s dearer Rs. 10 Rs. 30, he remarked.
