Colombo equities demonstrated negative investor sentiment today. The Benchmark Index, ASPI closed the day at 6,028.57 points, losing 3.59 points or -0.1%. This was mainly due to price losses in counters such as SLTL.N(LKR33.10,-2.65%), CCS.N(LKR811.20,-1.61%), TJL.N (LKR35.40,-1.67%),ASIR.N (LKR25.70,-1.15%) & UAL.N (LKR140,-3.45%). The Blue Chip Index S&P SL20 decreased by 2.88 points or -0.1% to close at 3,447.19.
Foreigners took the position of net buyers for the day, recording a net foreign inflow of LKR 103mn for the day.
HHL.N recorded the highest turnover for the day of LKR 67.2mn, followed by JKH.N (LKR35.4.mn) and TKYO.X (LKR494,716).
The day saw turnover increase by 13.4% to LKR 272mn compared to the last trading day. Diversified Holdings Sector managed to record the highest turnover of LKR 112.7mn for the day, followed by Manufacturing Sector and Bank Finance and Insurance Sector with daily turnovers of LKR 47.5mn and LKR 36.6mn respectively. Year to date ASPI Performance stood at -3.2%, while Year to date Blue Chip Index decreased by 1.4%.
Out of the 199 counters traded today, 74 companies declined while 55 companies closed higher. Sri Lanka’s Gross Domestic Product grew 4.4 percent in 2016, down from 4.8 percent a year earlier, with drought and floods leading to the dip, the Department of Census and Statistics said Wednesday. (LBO)
